2026 2027 Victoria Subclass 190 491 Visa Updates including VPT

Latest News

15 Oct 2026

The Victorian State Government has officially released major updates for the 2026–2027 Skilled Migration Visa Program (Subclass 190 and Subclass 491). Key changes include the introduction of application fees for Registrations of Interest (ROIs) and nominations, along with full details on the newly structured Victorian Points Test (VPT).

Here is a complete overview of what you need to know before submitting your application.

1. Introduction of Fee for Service (Service Charges)

Starting from the 2026–2027 program year, submitting a Registration of Interest (ROI) and applying for Victorian visa nomination will no longer be free.

Fee Structure for 2026–2027
  • Registration of Interest (ROI): $60 AUD (Excl. GST) / $66 AUD (Incl. GST)

  • Subclass 190 Nomination Application: $180 AUD (Excl. GST) / $198 AUD (Incl. GST)

  • Subclass 491 Nomination Application: $180 AUD (Excl. GST) / $198 AUD (Incl. GST)

Note:

  • GST (10%) applies if you are physically located in Australia at the time of payment.

  • Nomination fees are payable only if you receive an invitation and proceed to submit the nomination application.

  • The ROI fee is charged once per program year. Withdrawing and resubmitting within the same program year will not incur additional fees.

2. Key Reminders for Applicants

  1. Previous ROIs are Void: All ROIs submitted in previous program years are no longer active. You must log in to the Live in Melbourne portal and submit a brand new ROI once the 2026–2027 program officially opens.

  2. Ensure Information Accuracy: Verify that all claimable points (English scores, work experience, qualifications, and skill assessments) are correctly reflected in your Department of Home Affairs SkillSelect EOI. Claiming unverified points can lead to visa nomination refusal.

  3. Prepare Supporting Documents in Advance: Every detail provided in your EOI and ROI must be backed by official documentation upon request.

3. The New Victorian Points Test (VPT) Ranking System

Victoria uses its own point system—the Victorian Points Test (VPT)—to rank ROIs. Unlike the Department of Home Affairs SkillSelect system, there is no fixed pass mark for the VPT. Candidates with the highest total VPT scores are selected during invitation rounds.

Selection Pathways
  1. Most Competitive Stream: Highest VPT-scoring candidates across all eligible occupations.

  2. Priority Industry Stream: Highest VPT-scoring candidates within designated priority sectors.
